The Turkeybird Speaks(My 3 year old son's POV): "This book is one of those that I just can't put down. My favorite is when my dad reads it, 'wake up, eat a nut, look at a view, eat a nut...', he just does such a good job! Scaredy Squirrel is one of those characters you love instantly, I mean, he's really a flying squirrel! He can fly! How cool is that? And he's afraid of bee's and I am not a fan at all. I once had one sting me and my thumb swelled up like a balloon! So of course you want to stay away from those terrible bugs!"My favorite part though has to be his emergency kit! He has everything you could ever need in there to keep away all the scary things you might encounter! Although I'm still not quite sure why he's afraid of sharks? I LOVE sharks! But my mom doesn't, so maybe it's an adult thing??? Anyway, the emergency kit! My mom and I even drew one up together. They have one you can print off on the website for the book and it is incredible! You have to try it out! Of course we included band-aids, just like squirrel, because they are my favorite thing to stick to my body (even if I don't have a 'good' reason for it, as my mom would say)!"This is a definite must read with any guy or girl you know! A favorite in our preschool classroom that gets lots of giggles and a few huhs? (They are 4 and 5 year olds.) The kids can help me read as the pictures are repeated and the book has a good message of trying new things.

We really liked the original 'Scaredy Squirrel' but not sure how we feel about this one. Same paranoid squirrel and same format...lots of planning...but that might be the problem. There isn't enough story or substance in the book. Lots and lots of pictures and words on the pictures deatiling his plan, if that makes sense. I would have liked to have seen more of a storyline. It is a lot of explaining what he is doing and why in my own words instead of the author doing that in the story. My daughter still loves it b/c it is Scaredy Squirrel, but I don't enjoy reading it like I do the original.

We just love these books. Have most of them. Any kids books that the parents love to read is a bonus. Thanks for writing such fun and unique books.

My five year old adores the Scaredy Squirrel books. I was pleased to see this one at a good price for my Kindle, so we can have a few digital books for bedtime when we travel.

My eight-year-old grandson, who actually reads on a fairly high level, loves the Scaredy Squirrel series. It addresses well the vulnerable feelings a child has in new situations and opens up the lines of communication between child and adult. These books also contain a fair amount of gentle humor (that Scaredy Squirrel!) and are easy for an eight-year-old to read. He loves them and that's good enough for me!

My daughter reads the Scaredy Squirrel books at school, so this little short was a fun watch for us!

The first thing that would come to mind when I hear about Yoga are those complicated-looking poses the supposedly promotes a healthier lifestyle. But when I read this book, I realized there is so much more to it. The author tackled what yoga is about and gave an in-depth discussion about its origins and schools.I have learned that yoga is an art and is definitely a way of life. I really liked that part in book where the author stated that practicing yoga can help eliminate "afflictions". However, it does not mean that we will not experience sorrows anymore. Life still has its natural cycle of fluctuating emotions but yoga would help us find the inner peace.Of course the best part is still the instruction guide on how to actually apply the different yoga positions. It would have been probably easier if there were illustrations so the readers would know if they did it right. Other than that, this book is a terrific companion for yoga beginners like me.

Finally a yoga book which simply and effectively explains many misunderstood aspects of yoga from prana breathing to asana postures and the 3 yoga types. It's an important aspect of yoga beyond exercise and movement that will help your yoga practice, here it is in a simple form for you. Highly recommend to anyone who is interested in yoga or has been taking yoga who wants to really better their practice.

Great description of the movements and what yoga can do for you. The only feedback I have is that I wish they had put photos into it. Some yoga moves are very specific, and sometimes reading how to do them doesn't do justice. Great read however!

I wanted to read this book to learn more about yoga; it was a fantastic, informative read about all the different kinds of yoga. I didn't know that there were so many kinds and variations of yoga and this book helped me open my eyes in that respect. I will definetely use some of the tips for yoga offered in this book!

My daughters loved this story and the color pictures (especially the part about Anna's childhood and her daydreams where she imagined herself as the heroine in a Hollywood movie). I had never heard of Anna May Wong before I read this biography. She was one of the earliest Chinese-American movie stars. She was born in Los Angeles in 1905, and started working as an actress in the 1920s, during a time when movies portrayed Chinese people in a demeaning way. Because her family was poor and relied on her earnings, she played these kinds of parts for many years and became a successful actress. In 1936, Anna May visited China and learned as much about the culture as she could. While there, she vowed never again to act in a movie that portrayed the Chinese in a negative light. Starting in 1937, Anna May Wong accepted only roles that showed her character in a positive light. He briefly defines modernity, differentiating it from modernism and then delves to explore how this has dramatically caused God to become "weightless".I have to confess that, as interesting as I found this topic, at times I put down the book with my "ears ringing" for the chapters are somewhat repetitive in content and frequently the whole books feels like a rant.Another small criticism is that David Wells does not really provide any concrete solutions to the problem. He does cite some research linking growth of the church with return to orthodoxy but there are no concrete, practical solutions .Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to any Christian. Certainly, David's thesis is well mirrored in the church today.- sermons are pathetically therapeutic, light and void of theology; Christians are superficial in their understanding.

The primary concern of God in the Wasteland is the influence modernism and modernity has had on the Christian Church as a whole. Wells, a theology professor, offers a look at the trend of mega-church building, its emphasis on marketing, and its effects on theology. He discusses how the philosophies of Christianity, postmodernism, and New Age spiritualism have reacted to modernism and its perhaps prematurely called death - the end of the "Enlightenment project." In the wake of the centuries old endeavor, a progression towards the ideal of man, the effects are still felt in the church. Christians are faced with re-establishing their relationship with God after distancing themselves for those centuries.There are two methods of modernism that the Church has incorporated: marketing and giving the people what they want. This results from an attitude shared with capitalism: the people are consumers. This, consequently, makes God the product and the Church the salesman. The terms are irreligious, but as Wells point out, they are used by those practicing a church growth doctrine. The exemplar of this doctrine is George Barna, who applies business models to churches to make them grow. He states that pastors would do better to have a Master of Business Administration degree, rather than a Master of Divinity. Modern pastors need "gifts" of delegation, confidence, interaction, decision-making, visibility, practicality, accountability, and discernment. Barna suggests the power of visual realization, envisioning the large church and making it happen. The greatest controversy is over his idea of adapting the product to the customer's needs. Another advocate of a more `pragmatic' approach to church building is David Macavran, who published Understanding Church Growth and established the American Institute for Church Growth in the 1970's. Macavran used psychology, marketing, and behavio9ral health research for his theories. Theology was conspicuously missing.Giving the people what they want prompts the question what should the Church compromise? As modernism dominates in society at large, or the reactionary postmodernism or New Age spiritualism among segments of society, the Church may embrace the influence in order to attract members of society. Teachings on God's transcendence, holiness, providence are taught much less than it once was. Condemnation of sin, emphasizing God's judgment, and the reality of Hell are minimized as these do not appeal to the consumer as sovereign, another philosophy some modern churches share with capitalism, along with ideas finding legitimacy and value in the marketplace. Instead a multi-media presentation is made to self-interest. Wells writes of this environment, "It is here that entertainment and worship are not merely interspersed but often indistinguishable. And it is here, where life should be receiving its most serious and sustained analysis, that tons of literature and countless hours of television and radio programming are being produced that contain nothing more than the sorts of empty clichés and hollow comforts that are available everywhere else in the modernized world ... at this very moment, evangelicalism has bought cultural acceptability by emptying itself of serious thought, serious theology, serious worship, and serious practice in the larger culture" (27).Modernization within the church has fostered two approaches: the therapeutic and the managerial. The therapeutic approach sees sin as a sickness, and the right technique is available in the marketplace to heal people. The manifestation of this is the support group. The managerial approach looks for efficient techniques for happiness.Another way modernism may affect the Church, though not by purposeful program, but by a pervasive philosophy in society, is the elevation of the individual, beyond the appeal to consumer or patient. Modernism replaced God with self. Philosophers such as Kant, Nietzsche, Rority, and Fish not only put self on the throne as legislator and arbiter of truth and justice, but elevate the self to become creator of reality. They bring into question whether there is an external reality, which brings into doubt any external God to whose image the self should conform. "Thus thwarted in their effort to find meaning outside themselves, moderns have sought to relocate all reality internally, detached from any fixed moral norms" (94).Wells recognizes effects of modernism in general, but we can spot them within the Church too. One effect is the attitude and language of victimhood. "This spiral into pervasive victimhood... marks a corresponding erosion of personal responsibility, and suggests that genuine moral discourse about what is right and wrong, irrespective of private interests, is increasingly less possible. Contemporary culture has so diminished our moral capacity, so robbed us of a concern to act responsibly, that we tend to resent moral demands from without or simply to dismiss them out of hand" (135).The appeal to self-interest, the adaptation of the Church, the emphasis of certain socially accepted traits of God and a suppression or denial of the unpopular traits, all elevate the value of self while diminishing the values of God. God becomes weightless. "...what was once objective in God's being, what once stood over against the sinner, is either being lost or transformed into something we discover first and foremost in ourselves in such a way that God's immanence is typically psychologized. ...A God with whom we are on such easy terms and whose reality is little different from our own - a God who is merely there to satisfy our needs - has no real authority to compel and will soon bore us" (92-93). This passage, the last line especially, is a bleak prophecy that appears to be taking place now.

In "God in the Wasteland..." David Wells continues the examination of the decline of evangelicalism he began in "No Place for Truth" taking it to such a depth of content and analysis that there is no doubt in my mind that we are in trouble. Modernity (or Post-modernity depending on your view) has infiltrated the church to such a degree that we are more worldly than not. Dr. Wells calls us to let God "weigh heavily" on us and the Church. He calls us to be turn away from the worldliness that we have adopted and turn toward God. Only then can we truly be the Church, an alternate culture in a decaying world. There is so much to this argument that it would be hard to even scratch the surface in this review. I can only urge you to read and consider Dr. Wells' observations and how you need to respond to the crisis at hand. In addition to his penetrating observations Dr. Wells also includes the raw data from a study of two groups of seminarians eleven years apart and their responses to a battery of questions designed to assess their world-view. This fascinating book is a must read for all those concerned with the state of the Church.

Great analysis of Evangelicalism from 25 ago that is still very relevant today. The author wrote prophetically about the church and its relation with this fallen world we live in. We all must read this and those who are not still aware of the problem must have their eyes opened. Necessary reading for the Christian.

I was not familiar with David Wells until this year, but having read "No Place for Truth," I could not wait to read this one. I am now on my fourth book by David Wells since May and looking forward to two more this summer. His work is well documented, thought provoking, and well written. If you like to think, then I highly recommend David F. Wells, "God in the Wastelands."

Okay, there are things I love about this book. First, I very much appreciate the author sharing this story with the world. It seems we will never run out of new stories from WWII! Second, I love horses so I was excited to read this book! And I appreciate the love of horses we see in the characters (including the Germans) and in the author (for the love she has for them comes through her writing). Third, I appreciate the author writing a youth adaptation of her best seller for this is a great story for young people to read about. Fourth, also the importance of exposing students to more history is admirable!But there were things I didn't like about this book. First, it doesn't read like a story. It reads most of the time like a text book. There are times there are story elements but they are not consistent and come in between history lessons. I just don't think the voice of this book is write for young readers. It wasn't a joy to read. Second, I don't like how the author explained words in parantheses right in the text (like she wrote "mare" and then shared (female horse). A better idea would have been to have a index of words she wanted to define at the beginning or end of the book. This defining words right in the middle of the text added to the academic nature of the book's voice. Third, I think a better way to write this book would have been more like a novel and without so many details that maybe younger readers won't care about. At the end of the book a brief summary of the true account could have been shared.Of course I am only one reviewer and this is my opinion. Maybe students will like the format of this book, but I have a lot of doubts about that.

I am a history lover, but not necessarily a horse lover, but I loved this book. I had a hard time putting it down and mowed through it in a few days, which is quick for me. I really loved the historical context that everything was put into and for the non-historian, there is plenty of explanation and narration to make the story flow, but it is even more rewarding for the world war 2 buff.I have not read the full adult version of this book, but I feel that this version has all the details I was looking for and I'm guessing that it read a little quicker and easier than the original. 225+ pages probably also fits my interest level in this story better than the 370+ of the original. Although if the writing is as engaging as it was in this childrens reader, than I probably would have appreciated the extra 150 pages.The reading level might be more on the tween side than the 8 year old side that is listed for age, but strong young readers should be fine. Despite being a war time book, there is nothing overly objectionable.All in all, I loved this book.

I loved the original version of this book by this author and was fascinated by the story. This one is aimed at kids and is definitely an abridged version. The Polish Arabians aren't addressed like in this first book, this one is focused on just the Lippizaner horses and that's ok. I'm building a collection of horse and dog books for my nieces to read when they visit and this one will be ready when she is. My one star deduction is because there are no photos in this kid's version - the original book had lots of photographs that brought the story to life. This book really needs those pictures.

Back in my teenage years, my girlfriend and I went to the Indiana State Fair and saw the Royal Lipizzaner horses perform. I had learned about dressage from a television series before that. The horses were all stunning white and proud. I will never forget their intricate footwork and sterling confidence. That drew me to this book. The Nazis wanted to own the best of the best and to create by faulty genetic theory the perfect military horse. They picked the Lipizzaner as one of the groups to breed with other outstanding horses to create a genetically pure warrior horse. The Nazis lost and it was up to a few courageous men to rescue them. This is the story of that part of their history. Without that dangerous rescue the outstanding horses could have ended up at slaughter houses for horsemeat.I highly recommend this book and am sad that no pictures of these majestic horses are included in this thrilling book.

The regular, full-length version of The Perfect Horse is interesting, but I found parts of it to stray a bit far from the horses. I was delighted to find that this “young reader” version sticks to the main story. Those with a deep interest in WWII should probably go with the longer, “adult” version, regardless of their age. Those with mainly an interest in the Lipizzaner horses may well prefer this “young reader” version, again, whatever their age. This version is not written for the truly young and is quite suited to adults. Though I would note that the “young reader” version focuses on only the Lipizzaners, while the “adult” version also covers Polish Arabian horses.But that’s JustMe.

I'm always looking for non-fiction for my middle grade readers at school that they'll find interesting, and The Perfect Horse is a book that fits that bill. I didn't realize that this book is a young reader's version of the adult book by the same title, and found this book to be sufficient to satisfy my curiosity about the Lipizzaner horses. I also was fascinated by this WWII story that I knew little about, and like that a little known story of this event is being told.

This is the second Office related book I got from Amazon and its much more clear and concise compared to the other one which I wont mention the name of. The pictures help the text make more sense because you can see what the author is referring to throughout the book.

The author makes the information easy to understand and doesn't get overly technical which really helps me follow along. I don't like to feel stupid when reading a book! There are plenty of screenshots that help to make the content more understandable as you go through the chapters. I really got a lot from the chapter on the Office ribbon.

I just need to return the Office Made easy, I need a coding made easy or a medical billing book made easy, Thanks
