From what I've read thus far, this book makes a lot of assumptions about what you already know about the concepts covered in INCD1. If you're going to get this book without knowing subnetting, VLANs, simple layer 2 forwarding concepts, you're going to get a bit lost.I actually passed ICND1 (version 1) and received my CCENT certification using the other Lammle CCNA book a few months ago. That one included both ICND1 & ICND2 into a single book which was great. Unfortunately, Cisco updated their tests right after I passed ICND1 so I was at a bit of a disadvantage if I were to go into ICND2 without some ample prep.I'll update this review once I pass my ICND2 and get my CCNA (hopefully). :)

I passed ICND2 using this book along with the Odom book, the Pearson Network Simulator, and the Boson ICND2 practice exam. This book adds a great second perspective to what you'll learn from Odom's much more methodical, dense volume. My suggestion would be to read the Odom book cover to cover, followed by this one. It is absolutely imperative to get hands on experience with configuring routers and switches and the Pearson Network Simulator, which you get a discount on from Odom's book, is excellent for that purpose. Once you're comfortable with configuration and troubleshooting using 'show' commands, begin practicing information recall via practice exams. The Boson practice exam was excellent for getting those off-the-wall, unexpected sort of questions such as usually appear on certification exams. I hold 4 other industry certs and I will tell you the clear, direct sort of questions usually found in exam prep books appear sparingly on the real exam, interspersed between the more 'were you really paying attention?' sort of questions. The Boson practice tests made me aware of my weaknesses (QoS, IPv6, routing protocol details), and I think made all the difference in achieving a passing score as I didn't ace the exam, but also didn't barely scrape by, just solidly passed.This book is much more concise than Odom's, which is only a good thing if you've already read the latter. The tone is almost like chatting with an experienced pro buddy on the weekend, gaining little insider tips. The exam topics cover topics with many layers and so many little details that it is critical to gain as many different perspectives as possible as each author/instructor will pinpoint different aspects of the topics.Beware of the chapters on SDN and QoS as they seem to have been a bit rushed. Definitely refer to the Odom book for info about those topics.

Recomendación póngale mucho empeño a STP y a EIGRP que en el examen preguntan mucho de eso.Perfect, that book help me pass the exam in my second attempt. Don’t just relay in this book you will need to do a lot of lab using packet tracert, GNS3 or live equipments. Also use video courses like Christ Bryan. My recommendation is to give a lot of attention to STP and EIGRP because they ask a lot in the exam.

I purchased 2 books, this one and Odom's book. Odom's was great, but way too dry for me to study for more than 15 minutes. Lammle's book set a good foundation to learn off of and then made transitioning to Odom's book (and other videos) much easier.

This book is not only outdated (still includes objectives that were taken OUT of the CCNA IDND2v3 exam topics) but is simply just too generalized to provide any comprehensive or relevant knowledge from the exams (Frame-Relay for example). This book will introduce you to most of the topics covered in ICND2 - but that's it. It will not provide the in depth knowledge you will need to pass the exam. If you wish to purchase this book, do so for informational purposes only and back up your studying with more recent resources and cisco documentation.

Fiance is using this book in conjunction with course book he was given, he says that this book covers in detail, and in more plain words and diagrams things that his book will only "mention, or brush over".He seems to think this is a great addition to his tool box of study materials, he enjoys the additional videos and resources included.He does also use other resources, like free online videos etc as well. May find, as my fiance does, that you benefit from multiple study references.

Hard to follow at times. The labs are quite frustrating - the author could have provided easy-to-follow directions for setting up the labs but didn't. The videos were pretty bad too. Very hard to understand. He is too fast and leaves a lot of useful training out. I guess he thinks everybody has been doing it for ten years. Useful material for passing the CCNA but you would definitely be better off sourcing your labs and videos somewhere else.
