Robert B. Parker is a must buy, must read and re-read author.This stand-alone is easy to follow and difficult to put down. No editing errors, gratuitous violence or drag-you-down drama. There are formatting issues.Intriguing storyline with several suspects. Mr. Parker's descriptive, almost lyrical writing draws the reader into each scene. Realistic procedures, actions and reactions. The camaraderie of the Paradise Police Department is always realistic. Procedures, actions, reactions and politics are true to life. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking, memorable and occasionally snarky dialogue.I will re-read this story and always look forward to works in this series.

The Jesse Stone series is just a good police procedural story. Sure it is a small town, but that doesn't mean it is Mayberry not by a long shot. Things happen in Paradise and when it involves crime then Chief Stone and his officers have to handle it. This story dealt with a double homicide that has a long list of suspects for Jesse to sift through and find the person or persons responsible for the crime. Then added to the mix is a crime that hits closer to home for Jesse. His ex-wife tells him she has been raped and is now being stalked by her rapist. So the question is there resolution to both cases and can Jesse pull through these events without falling into the abyss of drinking only you can find out by reading this story.

The Jesse Stone novels are OK for the first couple, but then you realize they run in a pattern. There are the chapters about the current crime. There are chapters about his current love life. And there are chapters with his A.A. counselor. After reading a couple of these series, I found myself skipping half the book and just reading the section about the crime. Then I stopped buying the series.

I am a new comer to Robert Parker's books and Jesse Stone character. I enjoy the mystery involved in the books and the solving of it by Stone and his police force. The major drawback for me is the constant and over use of the ex wife, Jenn. The first book I was OK with it, but when it continues to be there going back and forth its become too much. I finally have been skipping chapters or paragraphs where she is mentioned. She is boring, repetitive, uninteresting and unnecessary to any of the books I have so far read. Jesse is a flawed man, OK, point taken...the whole scenario is just totally boring and adds nothing to the story line. Just my opinion, but I think the books would be much better without the Jenn character. I have only read 7 and am hoping she eventually fades away. At this point, don't really what happens to the character, as long as she is gone!!

Jesse Stone as the Pardise, MA. police chief is very capable and very likeable, as are his other PD colleagues of Suit, Molly, and others.In his personal life, Jesse has become quite annoying, as has this novel. It's completely predictable and can be read in a sitting. His personal life with women, including his ex-wife, is bizarre. He's completely hung up on his ex, Jenn, he just cannot move on, despite her trampling all over him. This installment is particularly ridiculous, being he has one of his current squeezes looking after Jenn after claiming she was raped. What two women, as compatible as oil & water, would enter such an arrangement? None.Jesse also has quite a drinking problem. It got him fired from the LAPD in the first place. He refuses, despite a therapist, to confront it and keeps toying with the booze, trying to contol it. On again/off again.The murders and neer-do-wells take a backseat in this book to his pretty ridiculous personal life, including the well treadbare character, Jenn, who became annoying sometime back.I like the latter Stone novels from the late Mr. Parker. The earlier ones just do not cut it. This one is #6 in the series. Do yourself a favor and take a pass on it.

I have enjoyed the humor and quiet stealth of Jesse Stone. I think his persona has been well portrayed in the movies and use those visual characters as reference when reading. It adds, for me, a great deal, like visiting friends. Robert Parker weaves some very, very good tales with these characters and i hope he continues for a long time.

Jesse Stone at his finest. I have been reading Robert Parker for years and he never disappoints. This latest is a story of murder at its most disgusting point. Jesse on his glory does manage it in his slow and meaningful way, Great story, entertaining. I just wish he would ditch Jen and get a real woman

Another great book by Robert B Parker as I have loved reading every one of his books .Sure miss his style after his passing as he has a ghost writer continuing the series but they just done have that Robert B Parker zing ! But this one was written by Robert 3 years before his passing !
