Some 3.0 books are obnoxious to convert to 3.5, but this one wasn't too bad. I avoid letting characters play "evil" characters as it normally causes too much conflict in the player group (even when they all want to do an evil campaign), but this makes for a phenomenal reference for Campaign villains. It gives a handful of tricks to cause parties unique problems, such as vile damage, that can give DMs inspiration for other further unique damage obstacles (such as "blaze" damage that can only be healed while immersed in water or some such) . It gives some great foes to throw at high level parties, and many great "attrition" style tools so parties can't just fight a single fight and then rest, regain all spells, fight a single fight, rinse repeat.Highly recommend for anyone still dabbling in 3.5 DnD

Love it, so dark, so evil so fantastic in tipping the balance in favor of the parties enemies or even to give an evil party more power and control in an otherwise good realm. If the DM hopes to keep even scales in good and evil he should include the "book of exalted deeds". I for one love to make campaigns difficult and try to starve the party towards evil into gain power. They often fall victim to my temptation. This is book is also very easy to mod little details in making it compatible with 3.5.

I bought this at basically half price as a "very good" condition and it looked brand new and never opened. No bent corners. Arrived on time. Very happy. High five.

If you can get it for under twenty dollars including shipping and handling do so (used copy for example), I wouldn't spend more than that ... lots of interesting ideas to incorporate into a D&D campaign but not as impressive and well written as say Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG, Nobilis RPG or All Flesh Must Be Eaten ... not nearly as controversial as people are making it out to be (mildly so at best) but still it's a good solid entry in the D&D line

If you run a role playing oriented game where the PCs are up against truly evil and twisted individuals, this book is probably for you. Do you want to have the soul of a PC or NPC captured by an evil creature for some nefarious purpose? This book can give you mechanics for it beyond just a Magic Jar spell. How would your characters react to finding the heart of a celestial creature or small child for sale in the local market? This book will tell you how much it's worth to the right people and what kind of use they would put such an item to. Yes, there are some things in this book that would probably not be included in the "typical" D&D adventure. But that's not the kind of game I run anyway so I have found this to be an invaluable source.The book starts off explaining the nature of evil in a D&D world. It goes on to enumerate various evil acts, under what circumstances they are evil, etc. If you have a paladin in your game, this section alone can be great fun.From there it talks about some very interesting new mechanics for evil. It explains how villians can use pain, despair and depravity to increase their own power and lessen that of the PCs. It includes a variety of very interesting magic items that only an incredibly evil character would even think of using. It has a table of poisons that will knock out even those epic level characters. And more information on addictive drugs and the effects of addiction.The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that a large portion of the book provides stats on all the Lords of Hell and their main minions - not something I have found much use for yet in my game. It's dark. It's twisted. But it's supposed to be because it's all about evil. And I find that it adds a new dynamic to my game that my players and I really enjoy.

As a huge fan of the original AD&D game, I was always inspired by the devils and demons from the Monster Manual. When subsequent rewrites left them out or "reimagined" them I felt that some of the truest forms of evil had been banished from the game, leaving a rather large hole behind. Seeing them put back in, and "properly" labeled as demons and devils is heartening.For fans of classic "good vs. evil" campaigns, this guidebook is a wealth of ideas. The motivations behind many of the cults that follow the forces of darkness are great seed material. Many of the prestige classes provide powerful enemies and allies for the player characters. But the foremost reason for purchasing this book is the detail on the Demon Princes and Archdevils.Updated and given near deity status, the familiar and spine chilling names of Demogorgon, Orcus, Asmodeus, Baalzebul--they are all here. There is more than enough information to inspire any campaign.If you enjoy extremely dark villains and want to challenge your campaigners with the ultimate tests, this book is for you. Also, look for the dedicated sourcebooks on the Abyss and the Nine Hells that have recently come out. And if you want to truly bring about the contest of good and evil and feel that your player characters are overmatched, also look into the Book of Exalted deeds, where allies can be found to oppose the fiends depicted in the Book of Vile Darkness.

Ok i bought this book and i was expecing differnet ways to kill my PCs.All this book had in it were the obvious ways to kill them (ex. guillotine).Even though this book didn't have any "new" ways to kill PCs it is still a good book and gives many new feats and new items.If you are a DM and want to add some evil into your campaign or if you a a PC and you want to be the most evil you can be then this book is for you.
