This book is about Sir Godfrey Tallboys and his wife Sybilla. He is a knight who travels to many tournaments. This is how he makes his living. He has a house built for his wife which he calls Knight's Acre. The story tells of his wife's time at home while he is away in Spain fighting a war and what happens when he comes home. Many of Ms. Lofts' books intertwine.

Thank you, thank you for this Kindle edition of another Norah Lofts book! I check regularly for new ones and this was a good pick! I have most of her books in hardback format, but it's so nice to take my library in Kindle format when I travel or go to doctor appointments.As far as the content goes, Norah Lofts is the closest thing to time travel that we have. I am transported to another time and place every time I read one of her books. What an amazing woman she must have been! Don't hesitate to buy this or any other book by Norah Lofts!

I was thrilled with Lofts' book "A Wayside Tavern" and I opened this book expecting more great story telling. Instead, I found at best a cheesy romance loaded with predictability and about 100 pages more than it really took to tell this sad little story. I found the characters rather unlikeable and many of the twists that could have made the tale interesting were never explored. The author took the easy road to the climax of the book and personally, I could care less what happens to any of the characters in the sequels. The "other woman" is a tramp predictably written as wild and unpredictable. The long suffering loyal wife continues to suffer and the wandering knight who wanders in the worst of ways seems to be an immature, unreliable, weak-willed twit who pretty much deserves what is coming to him - though his family certainly deserved better than he ever provided. Turn on Jerry Springer and save your reading time for something of more merit.

He leaves her and their children at a beautiful house that he built for them without food or furniture while he goes off to earn money for them. She faces a plague, out-laws, starvation, and humiliation. He faces death, slavery, and longing. It is a beautiful love story, probably one of the best that I have ever read. Great for a rainy day with a box of tissues. I loved it!

I was hoping to read more of this story, and just found out it's part of the Suffolk Trilogy by Norah Lofts. Lots of historical feeling and tidbits. Romance, reality, Great read! Knights, Moors, English, Spaniards, bowmen, plague. It's got it all. Check it out! ( i did, at the library! ) Lots of good stuff at the library. I have to buy volume 2 since they don't have it.... sigh.
